The Law of Attraction & Conscious Creation

What is Channeling and Who is Abraham?

Esther Hicks published her ground-breaking Teachings of Abraham, also known as The Laws of Attraction, in 2004, and these teachings have become an overwhelming popular success. Hicks has appeared on Oprah and has spawned a host of similar gurus teaching similar principles of manifestation. What you may or may not realize is that ‘Abraham’ actually refers to a group of non-physical entities that speak through Esther Hicks by means of ‘channeling’; a practice in which a disembodied spirit ‘borrows’ the body of a living person (such as Hicks) to impart messages or special knowledge.

Channeling has been around since the days of ancient Greece when worshipers would pose questions to the Priestesses of Apollo, also known as Sibbilla or Sybils. The Sybil would lapse into a trance state and deliver an answer to the question. The answer was understood as given by the god through the priestess as a vehicle. More recently, channeling was practiced by Spiritualist trance mediums at the turn of the 20th century, and in today’s world, by adherents of various New Age philosophies and ideas. During the late 19th century entire books were written by Victorian housewives by means of ‘automatic writing’, a technique in which a woman would loosely hold a writing instrument and a spirit was thought to speak through her by guiding her hand.

Whether or not you believe in the spirit world or the veracity of channeling as a way to knowledge, the teachings of Abraham-Hicks do appear to be working well for great number of followers. The technique itself however, is as ancient as days.
