The Law of Attraction & Conscious Creation
What Are the Different Types of Meditation Practice?
If you have never meditated before, the prospect of learning the technique may seem exotic and daunting, but there is really no need to be afraid of anything. Meditation is simply a way of quieting one’s thoughts and opening oneself up to a more receptive way of being in the world. Most of the time we are in an active orientation that can even be aggressive: constantly thinking, doing, rushing around. Meditation is designed to quiet our thoughts, make us still and receptive, and connect us more with the ‘being’ side of our nature instead of the ‘doing’ side. While every religious tradition has its own forms of meditation practice, most kinds of meditation fall into one of four general categories: 1) Breathing-focused meditation, 2) mantra-focused meditation, 3) walking meditation, or 4) visualization. All of these types of meditation will quiet the mind and open one’s awareness, but you may well find that one or two are especially helpful to you depending on where you are in your personal journey. The only way to find out which technique works best for you is try them all out, and luckily, many, many wonderful books, tapes, CDs, DVDs, classes, workshops, and other kinds of teaching materials are readily available to help you get started.
