Common Obstacles to Developing Intuition
If you have been relying on your rational thought processes for your entire life, you may feel somewhat daunted at the prospect of learning to tap into your intuitive side. While learning to recognize and heed your intuition isn’t really as hard as you might expect, you can save yourself some suffering and frustration by avoiding a few common pitfalls:
1) Great Expectations. It’s never a bad idea to expect the best, but be gentle with yourself. Don’t expect to have great revelations instantly and you won’t be disappointed if you don’t. Let the process unfold slowly, at its own pace. If you have a major insight, great! But don’t force the process or judge yourself. 2) Second Guessing. When you get an intuitive idea that seems ‘out there’ or unconnected to anything your rational mind would present, don’t start trying to dissect it right away. Let yourself just sit with the first impression, even if you don’t understand it at first. If you just hold the intuitive image or thought long enough, it will unfold and make sense in the end. 3) Misinterpretation. Intuition speaks in symbols. Often you may get an image intuitive idea and leap to a conclusion about what it means, and then find out later that is not what it means. Be patient. Again, these gifts will unfold in a way that makes more sense if you can be patient. 4) Forgetting to Ask. If you really don’t ‘get it’ you can ask the Universe for clarity. Ask for another image that clarifies the first, and you will almost certainly get it.
